The plant has finely divided, feathery green foliage that feels soft and fern-like, giving it an airy texture even when it is not in bloom. It typically grows in upright clumps and can reach about 18 to 24 inches tall, sometimes a bit taller in ideal conditions.
Yarrow is especially valued for its long blooming period and its ability to hold its flower color well through heat and sun. It tends to bloom from late spring through summer, and often into early fall if spent flowers are removed.
Yarrow is drought-tolerant, thrives in full sun, and attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies. It also has a sturdy, naturalistic look that works well in meadow-style plantings, cottage gardens, and cut flower arrangements. As a traditional herbal remedy yarrow is used to stop bleeding.
